Signing in and your account

How signing in works, how you end up in your organization, and what happens when a session ends.

Signing in

The desktop app signs you in through your web browser. Click Sign in, finish in the browser tab that opens, and wait for the page that says You’re signed in. Then go back to Nametags. While it waits, the button reads Waiting for your browser. If you don’t finish within three minutes, try again.

The sign-in page offers whatever your organization has set up: your work email, or your company’s single sign-on.

In Zoom you sign in with your Zoom account instead. After the first time, this happens by itself whenever you open Nametags in Zoom. See Nametags in Zoom.

One account, several ways in

If you sign in on the desktop app and in Zoom, both sign-ins lead to the same account, as long as they share a verified email address. Your nametag follows you from one to the other.

If Zoom can’t confirm your email address, it won’t link to an account you already have. You’ll see: “Zoom did not confirm your email address, so this account could not be linked to an existing one. Sign in with your work account first.” Sign in on the desktop app with your work account, then try Zoom again.

How you join your organization

Your organization is decided by the domain of your email address the first time you sign in. If your company uses Nametags, everyone who signs in with a company address joins it automatically. There are no invitations to accept.

Once you’re in, your organization’s rules apply to your tag. If your company isn’t set up, you still get a working nametag with no rules on it.

Staying signed in

You stay signed in for up to 90 days. After that, or after about a month without using Nametags, you’ll need to sign in again.
When your session ends, you’ll see Your session expired with a Sign in button. Your camera and tag keep working until then. You just can’t save changes to your nametag.
The desktop app keeps your sign-in in your Mac’s Keychain.

Signing out

In the desktop app, go to Advanced and click Sign out. The Nametags camera keeps working with your tag as it was.
