SSO field mapping

Fill in people's nametag fields from your identity provider when they sign in.

If your people sign in with your company’s single sign-on (SAML), Nametags can copy their details from your identity provider into their nametag. Nobody has to type their own title, and when someone changes role in your directory, their tag follows the next time they sign in.

Setting up the mapping

In SSO, under SAML field mapping, there’s a box for each nametag field: Name, Title, Company and Department. In each one, type the name of the attribute your identity provider sends for it, for example jobTitle or department. Leave a box empty to skip that field. Click Save mapping.

Attribute names depend on your identity provider and how its SAML app is configured. Check the attribute statements in your provider’s settings for the Nametags app.

What happens at sign-in

  • Every time someone signs in through SSO, each mapped field is overwritten with the value from your identity provider.
  • Fields you haven’t mapped are left as the person typed them.
  • If a value can’t be read, sign-in still goes ahead and the field is left alone.
  • Policy still applies. A mapped field that policy locks shows the policy’s default, and a hidden one isn’t shown at all. To make people’s directory titles stick, leave Title editable and map it. Anything a person types will be replaced at their next sign-in.

Connecting your identity provider

Connecting your identity provider to Nametags is done during onboarding, not in the console. Contact support to set up SSO for your organization.
